Why Pati Juarez Left a National Brokerage for JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate

An experienced REALTOR® talks about access to leadership, mindset, building a business through relationships, and the questions every agent should ask before changing brokerages.

Choosing the right real estate brokerage can have an impact far beyond commission splits, technology, or the logo on a business card. For experienced real estate agents, the right environment can influence mindset, confidence, professional growth, relationships, and ultimately how they build their business.

In a recent episode of Elevated Conversations, I sat down with Pati Juarez, REALTOR®, brokered by JLA Realty and powered by Omnia Elevate, to talk about her real estate career, why she decided to leave a large national brokerage, and what she has experienced since making the move.

Pati's story is particularly relevant for real estate agents who may be asking themselves a question many experienced REALTORS® eventually face:

Is my current brokerage still the right place for the business and life I want to build?

Elevated Conversations: Pati Juarez, REALTOR®, on leaving a national brokerage and what changed after the move.

Why Pati Juarez Decided to Change Real Estate Brokerages

Pati didn't make her brokerage decision impulsively.

Before joining JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate, she was affiliated with a large national real estate brokerage. While there can be advantages to working with a nationally recognized company, Pati realized she was looking for something different from her brokerage relationship.

She wanted an environment that felt more personal.

She valued being able to develop relationships with leadership rather than simply being another agent in a large organization. She wanted people who would genuinely check in with her, know what she was working toward, and be accessible when she needed support.

That became an important part of her decision to join JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate. Despite the overall size and reach of JLA Realty, Pati found the close-knit, small-business atmosphere she had been searching for.

Access to Leadership Made a Difference

One of the recurring themes throughout my conversation with Pati was accessibility.

Real estate agents are independent business owners. They are responsible for generating business, serving clients, negotiating transactions, managing contracts, marketing themselves, following up with their database, and continually developing their skills.

That independence doesn't mean agents should have to feel isolated.

Pati discussed the importance of having genuine conversations and regular check-ins with leadership. For her, knowing that people were interested in both her business and her progress made a meaningful difference.

At JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate, our belief is that support shouldn't disappear after an agent joins. An agent should still take ownership of their business. Leadership can't make prospecting calls for an agent, build their database for them, or force them to implement what they learn. But when an agent needs guidance, perspective, accountability, training, or simply someone to talk through a situation with, having accessible leadership matters.

A Brokerage Change That Helped Change Her Mindset

Pati also shared something that agents sometimes overlook when evaluating real estate companies: environment affects mindset.

Before making her move, she described reaching a point where her business could feel defeating. After joining JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate, she began experiencing her business differently.

It wasn't because someone suddenly took responsibility for building her business for her. Instead, she found herself in an environment where she felt supported while still having the freedom to operate as a business owner.

Support without ownership can create dependency. Freedom without support can create isolation.

Our goal within Omnia Elevate is to provide agents with an environment where they can have both — the freedom to build their business while having access to people, resources, training, coaching, collaboration, and leadership when they need it.

Building a Real Estate Business Through Relationships

Pati's approach to generating real estate business is also refreshingly simple. She focuses heavily on her sphere of influence.

Rather than treating every interaction as an opportunity to immediately generate a transaction, Pati believes in genuinely connecting with people and investing in relationships.

That's an important distinction. Your sphere isn't simply a database filled with names, phone numbers, and email addresses. They're people — friends, family members, past clients, acquaintances, neighbors, business owners, community connections, and people you meet throughout everyday life.

When real estate agents approach their sphere from a place of genuine interest rather than constantly asking for business, relationships can become the foundation for a sustainable referral-based real estate business.

Where Pati Juarez Serves Real Estate Clients

Pati currently works with buyers and sellers throughout Northeast Houston, North Houston, and surrounding Greater Houston communities. As her business continues to grow, she also plans to expand her presence into areas including Spring and Tomball, Texas.

Whether someone is preparing to purchase their first home, sell an existing property, relocate within the Houston area, or simply has questions about the real estate process, Pati's relationship-focused approach begins with understanding the person behind the transaction.

A First-Time Homebuyer Story Pati Won't Forget

Some of the greatest lessons in real estate don't come from training classes. They come from clients.

During our conversation, Pati shared the story of a first-time homebuyer whose journey didn't initially go according to plan. The experience became challenging, and instead of forcing a transaction simply for the sake of getting something closed, there came a point when regrouping was necessary.

The buyer took time to become better prepared. Later, the opportunity came together. The client ultimately purchased a home, and the experience became one of those transactions Pati continues to remember.

Stories like this are reminders that a REALTOR®'s job isn't simply to get someone to the closing table as quickly as possible. Sometimes serving a client means helping them understand when they're ready — and sometimes when they aren't quite ready yet.

Her Proudest Accomplishment Isn't a Sales Number

When real estate agents talk about accomplishments, conversations often revolve around production. Number of homes sold. Sales volume. Gross commission income. Awards.

Those measurements certainly have their place in business, but Pati's answer about what makes her proud went deeper: she has gained confidence in herself as a real estate professional.

Confidence matters tremendously in this business. Not arrogance. Confidence.

  • The confidence to explain a contract
  • The confidence to communicate with clients
  • The confidence to negotiate
  • The confidence to have difficult conversations
  • The confidence to acknowledge when you don't know something and seek the right answer
  • The confidence to trust that you've developed the skills necessary to serve your clients well

That type of growth can't always be measured on a production report.

Real Estate Agents Still Have to Own Their Business

One point Pati and I agreed on throughout our conversation is that joining the right brokerage doesn't eliminate personal responsibility. Real estate remains entrepreneurship.

Successful agents wear multiple hats. They're salespeople, marketers, negotiators, relationship builders, business developers, problem solvers, and business owners.

A brokerage, broker, coach, or leader can provide resources and opportunities. They can provide training. They can answer questions. They can offer accountability. They can help an agent think through challenges. But ultimately, the agent has to engage. You still have to do the work.

Pati understands that relationship. She doesn't expect someone else to build her business for her. Instead, she values having people available to support her while she builds it.

What Should You Look for When Changing Real Estate Brokerages?

Pati offered valuable advice for experienced real estate agents who are considering changing brokerages.

Don't simply move because another brokerage makes a compelling recruiting pitch. Instead, start by determining what you actually want. Consider questions such as:

  • What type of access do I want to my broker and leadership?
  • What kind of training would benefit my business?
  • Do I want coaching or accountability?
  • How much freedom do I want over my brand and business?
  • What technology do I actually need?
  • What type of culture do I want to be around?
  • Does the brokerage support solo agents and teams?
  • What are the brokerage's commission structure, cap, and fees?
  • Will I have people I can call when I need help?
  • Does this environment fit the life I'm trying to build outside of real estate?

Then interview different real estate brokerages. Ask questions. Talk directly with leadership. Determine whether what you're being told during recruiting matches how the organization actually operates.

Most importantly, find a brokerage that aligns with both your professional goals and personal priorities.

There Is No Perfect Brokerage for Every REALTOR®

One of the reasons I believe agents should interview multiple brokerages is simple: there isn't one real estate brokerage that's perfect for every agent.

Agents have different goals. Some want to build large teams. Some want to remain highly productive solo agents. Some prioritize technology. Others prioritize training. Some want extensive coaching. Experienced agents may simply want freedom, favorable economics, and access to leadership when they need assistance.

The question shouldn't necessarily be, "What's the best real estate brokerage?"

A better question is: what's the best real estate brokerage for the business I'm trying to build?

Those are two very different questions.

Training Inside JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate

Training is one of the things Pati mentioned valuing, and it's an area we continue to invest in. Everything below is available to members, and several of these are open to any agent who wants to see how we operate before making a decision.

Participation is voluntary. Agents are independent contractors, and nothing here is a required schedule or a mandatory-attendance obligation. Agents choose what fits the business they're building.

Continuing education credit is subject to course and provider approval. Confirm CE details with the course provider at the time of registration. Classes presented by title, inspection, warranty, mortgage, or builder partners are offered as an educational benefit; agents are free to choose any service provider they wish, and no compensation is exchanged for referrals or for the endorsement of any settlement service provider.

More Than Real Estate: Getting to Know Pati Juarez

One of my favorite parts of Elevated Conversations is that these conversations aren't only about contracts, listings, commissions, and production.

Real estate is a people business, and our organization is made up of people with lives, families, interests, goals, and stories outside of real estate.

Pati and I also talked about some of her favorite foods, movies, sports teams, gardening, working out, family, and life outside the business. Those conversations matter because connection matters. It's one of the values we continue working to cultivate within JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate.

What Is JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate?

Omnia Elevate is an agent development organization within JLA Realty, made up of solo real estate agents and real estate teams who want the freedom to operate their businesses while having access to leadership, training, coaching, collaboration, and community. All real estate brokerage services are provided by JLA Realty, a licensed Texas real estate brokerage.

Our focus isn't on forcing every REALTOR® into the same business model. Agents come to us with different levels of experience, different goals, different lead-generation strategies, different brands, and different visions for their businesses. Our job is to help them move forward from where they are.

Within Omnia Elevate, agents have opportunities to participate in ongoing training, coaching, masterminds, business-development conversations, accountability, networking, and events designed to create stronger relationships between members.

Most importantly, we're continuing to build an organization where agents can actually know the people they're in business with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from experienced agents researching a brokerage change, and from consumers looking for a REALTOR® in the Greater Houston area.

Why did Pati Juarez leave a national brokerage?

Pati was looking for a more personal environment than she had experienced at a large national brokerage. Specifically, she wanted the ability to build real relationships with leadership rather than being one agent among many in a very large organization — people who would check in with her, understand what she was working toward, and be accessible when she needed support.

She has also described a shift in mindset after the move. Before changing, she reached a point where her business could feel defeating; afterward, she found an environment where she felt supported while still operating with the freedom of a business owner. Her decision wasn't impulsive, and she encourages other agents to research carefully rather than react to a recruiting pitch.

Is Omnia Elevate a real estate brokerage?

No. Omnia Elevate is an agent development organization within JLA Realty. It provides coaching, training, mentorship, marketing support, and agent development services. All real estate brokerage services — including supervision, compliance, and the brokerage relationship itself — are provided by JLA Realty, a licensed Texas real estate brokerage led by Broker/Owner John Altic. Agents affiliated with Omnia Elevate are sponsored by JLA Realty.

What should an experienced agent consider before changing brokerages?

Start by defining what you actually want before you talk to anyone. Useful questions include: What access do I want to my broker and leadership? What training would genuinely help my business? Do I want coaching or accountability? How much freedom do I want over my brand? What technology do I actually use? What culture do I want to be around? Does the organization support both solo agents and teams? What is the commission structure, cap, and fee schedule? Will I have people I can call when I need help? And does this environment fit the life I want outside of real estate?

Then interview more than one brokerage, talk directly with leadership, and test whether what you hear during recruiting matches how the organization actually operates day to day.

Is there one best real estate brokerage for every agent?

No, and any organization claiming otherwise is worth a second look. Agents have genuinely different goals — some are building large teams, some intend to remain highly productive solo agents, some prioritize technology, others prioritize training or coaching, and many experienced agents mainly want freedom, favorable economics, and access to leadership when they need it.

A more useful question than "what's the best brokerage?" is "what's the best brokerage for the business I'm trying to build?" Those are two very different questions and they often produce different answers.

Does joining Omnia Elevate guarantee more business or leads?

No. Nothing about affiliating with any organization guarantees income, production, leads, or results. Real estate is entrepreneurship, and agents are independent contractors responsible for their own businesses.

Leadership can provide training, resources, coaching, accountability, and perspective, but no one can make prospecting calls for you, build your database for you, or implement what you learn on your behalf. As Pati put it, she doesn't expect someone else to build her business — she values having people available to support her while she builds it.

What training is available through JLA Realty – Omnia Elevate?

Ongoing training includes the Contracts Boot Camp offering five hours of free CE, a free library of training videos on YouTube, the Monday M.A.D. Call with Broker/Owner John Altic, the weekly Omnia Elevate Organization Call led by Jeremy Williams, the S.O.A.R. Mastermind, THRIVE with Theresa and Robby Almogabar, Perk & Purpose, Real Talk About Real Estate with John Altic, a written training blog, and the Survive Scale Soar Podcast. Members also have access to the self-paced Master Training Pathway.

Participation is voluntary. Agents are independent contractors and choose which sessions fit their business. Continuing education credit is subject to course and provider approval.

Does Omnia Elevate support teams as well as solo agents?

Yes. The organization includes both solo real estate agents and real estate teams. Team leaders operate their own brands and structures while having access to the same leadership, training, coaching, and collaboration available across the organization. There is more detail on the teams page for anyone evaluating how a team would fit.

What is the commission structure and are there fees?

Commission structure, cap, and fee details are published on the commission and fees page so agents can compare them directly against other options rather than working from a recruiting conversation. Terms are subject to change, and the written independent contractor agreement governs in all cases. Any agent evaluating a move should confirm current terms in writing before making a decision.

Separately, and importantly for consumers: real estate commissions are negotiable and are not set by law.

What areas does Pati Juarez serve, and how do I reach her?

Pati works with buyers and sellers throughout Northeast Houston, North Houston, and surrounding Greater Houston communities, and she plans to expand her presence into areas including Spring and Tomball, Texas. She can be reached at 832-766-1107.

Her approach is relationship-first: understanding a client's goals and helping them make informed decisions throughout the process, whether they're purchasing a first home, selling an existing property, relocating within the Houston area, or simply asking questions about how the process works.

I'm under contract with another broker — can I still have a conversation?

Researching your options is always appropriate, and reading, watching, and asking questions costs you nothing. That said, if you are currently party to an exclusive written agreement with another broker, nothing on this page is intended as a solicitation of that agreement, and you should review your own obligations before taking any action.

When you are in a position to have a conversation, the invitation is a genuine one: no pressure, and no assumption that we're the right fit. The goal is to talk about where you are, where you want to go, and whether what we've built could help you get there.

Considering Leaving Your Current Real Estate Brokerage?

Don't decide based solely on a commission split, a recruiting presentation, a technology platform, or brand recognition. Look at the entire picture — your business, your goals, your finances, the support you need, the culture you want, and the life you want your real estate business to support. Then ask questions and compare your options. If you'd like to talk, no pressure and no assumption that we're the right fit.
