This month, I proudly celebrate 21 years in the real estate industry—two decades of dedication to helping individuals and families buy, sell, and invest in Texas real estate. What started in 2004 as a bold career move has grown into something far greater than I ever imagined: a thriving real estate business, a successful coaching company, and a team of nearly 20 agents working under the Red Hawk Property Team powered by JLA Realty.
The Beginning: A Leap of Faith into Real Estate
After serving as a Director at the YMCA, I felt called to a new path. Like many who enter the world of real estate, I was inspired by a personal experience. The REALTOR® who helped my wife, Laurie, and me purchase our first home, Earl Hale, casually mentioned that he thought I’d make an excellent agent. Those words stayed with me. Not long after, I took the leap and joined a local brokerage.
From REALTOR® to Real Estate Leader and Coach
Early success in residential real estate sales led to opportunities in leadership. I’ve had the privilege of serving in management and coaching roles with some of the largest brokerages in the Greater Houston area. By 2010, I fully embraced coaching—helping other real estate agents maximize their potential and achieve sustainable growth.
In 2017, I launched Red Hawk Coaching, a business dedicated to coaching real estate agents and small business owners. The mission was simple: to provide personalized guidance that empowers professionals to thrive in any market.

Houston Cougars Stun Duke in Final Four Comeback to Advance to NCAA Championship Game in San Antonio
The Houston Cougars delivered a heart-pounding comeback in the Final Four in San Antonio, TX, overcoming a 14-point second-half deficit to defeat the Duke Blue Devils 70-67 on Saturday night. With the win, Houston advances to its first NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship appearance since the legendary Phi Slama Jama era — and will face the Florida Gators for the title on Monday night.
Houston Defense Shuts Down Duke in Final Minutes
The Cougars’ tenacious defense proved unstoppable down the stretch, holding Duke to just one field goal over the final 10.5 minutes of regulation. Duke freshman star Cooper Flagg finished with 27 points but was held scoreless in the closing minutes, struggling to find clean looks as Houston clamped down.
J’Wan Roberts came up huge on both ends of the court, disrupting Flagg’s step-back jumper in the final minute and sinking two clutch free throws with 19.6 seconds remaining to give Houston its first lead since early in the first half.
On Duke’s final possession, Tyrese Proctor’s last-second three-point attempt missed everything, sending the Cougars and their fans into a frenzy.
LJ Cryer Leads the Charge
Houston guard LJ Cryer led all scorers with 26 points, including two crucial free throws in the final seconds to push the Cougars’ lead to three — their largest of the game. The Cougars outscored Duke 11-1 to close the game, showcasing the grit and resilience that has defined their 2024–25 season.
Cougars Seek First NCAA Title in School History
Houston now turns its attention to Florida, who defeated Auburn 79-73 earlier in the evening. The national title game is set for Monday night, with contrasting styles expected — Florida’s fast-paced offense vs. Houston’s lockdown defense.
This is a historic opportunity for the Cougars, who have never won a national title despite storied runs in the past. With a defensive identity built around securing “kill stops” — three consecutive stops in a row — Houston proved once again they’re built for championship moments.
Joseph Tugler added four blocked shots, anchoring a Cougars defense that suffocated Duke down the stretch and elevated Houston to one of its most memorable wins in school history.

What is the San Jacinto Monument?
The San Jacinto Monument is a 567-foot stone tower in La Porte, Texas. It sits about 20 miles east of downtown Houston. It marks the spot where Sam Houston's army beat Santa Anna on April 21, 1836. The fight took about 18 minutes and made Texas free from Mexico.
How Tall Is the San Jacinto Monument?
The monument rises about 567 feet from the flat coastal plain east of Houston. That's roughly 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument.
The tower has eight sides. On top sits a 34-foot star that weighs about 220 tons. It stands for the Lone Star of Texas.
When and Why Was It Built?
Workers built it from 1936 to 1939 to mark 100 years since Texas won its freedom. It stands on the same ground where the battle was fought.
It was dedicated on April 21, 1939, exactly 103 years after the battle.
What Happened at the Battle of San Jacinto?
In 1835 and 1836, Texas fought to break free from Mexico. The war was hard. Just weeks before San Jacinto, many Texans died at the Alamo and at Goliad.
- March 1836The Alamo falls on March 6. Weeks later, prisoners are killed at Goliad.
- Early April 1836Sam Houston's army falls back east while Santa Anna gives chase.
- April 21, 1836Late in the day, Houston's men charge Santa Anna's camp near Buffalo Bayou. They shout “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!”
- About 18 minutes laterThe fight is over, and Texas wins.
- April 22, 1836Santa Anna is captured. He later signs the Treaties of Velasco.

Where is the San Jacinto Monument?
It stands at the San Jacinto Battleground in La Porte, Texas. That's about 20 miles east of downtown Houston, on the Houston Ship Channel.
How tall is the San Jacinto Monument?
It is about 567 feet tall, roughly 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument. A 34-foot star sits on top.
When was the San Jacinto Monument built?
It was built from 1936 to 1939 to mark 100 years of Texas freedom. It opened on April 21, 1939, 103 years to the day after the battle.
What happened at the Battle of San Jacinto?
On April 21, 1836, Sam Houston's army made a surprise attack on Santa Anna's camp. The fight took about 18 minutes and made Texas free from Mexico.
What does “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!” mean?
Those were the battle cries at San Jacinto. They honored the Texans who died weeks before at the Alamo and at Goliad.
What happened to Santa Anna after the battle?
Santa Anna was caught the next day. He later signed a peace deal called the Treaties of Velasco.
