Moving to Houston, TX: The Ultimate Relocation Guide
Houston Restaurant Weeks 2026: Dates, Georgia James & Giving Back
Houston Restaurant Weeks 2026: Why I Make Time for Great Food, Great Friends & Giving Back
August 1 – September 7, 2026One of my favorite annual traditions has nothing to do with real estate — and everything to do with the relationships and giving-back that make the work worth it.
When people ask what I do outside of building JLA Realty — Omnia Elevate, they're often surprised that one of my favorite annual traditions has nothing to do with real estate. Every year, I make it a point to participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks.
As someone who spends most of the year helping REALTORS® build thriving businesses across Texas — coaching agents, recruiting talented professionals, leading training, and serving clients — I believe it's important to intentionally create space for great conversations, meaningful relationships, and experiences that recharge you. For me, Houston Restaurant Weeks has become one of those traditions.
Why I Never Miss Houston Restaurant Weeks
Houston Restaurant Weeks is one of the best examples of a community coming together for a great cause. Each participating restaurant offers specially curated prix fixe menus, with a portion of every meal benefiting the Houston Food Bank. It's a chance to experience some of Houston's best restaurants while helping provide meals to families throughout Southeast Texas.
That's a combination that's hard to beat. Whether you're trying a restaurant you've never visited or returning to one of your favorites, every reservation helps support an incredible mission.
Dinner at Georgia James
One reservation I'm especially looking forward to this year is dinner at Georgia James with a group of friends. If you've never been, Georgia James has earned a reputation as one of Houston's premier steakhouses — known for exceptional steaks, creative sides, outstanding hospitality, and an unforgettable dining experience.
I'm looking forward to an evening filled with great food, plenty of conversation, and the opportunity to support Houston Restaurant Weeks while catching up with friends.
Success isn't only measured by transactions, production, or business growth. It's also measured by the relationships we build along the way.
Building Relationships Beyond Real Estate
One of the things I love most about real estate is that it has always been a relationship business. Over the past two decades, I've had the opportunity to coach agents, mentor team leaders, help families buy and sell homes, and build lasting friendships throughout Texas.
Some of the best conversations don't happen in a conference room. They happen around a dinner table. Sharing a great meal creates opportunities to reconnect, celebrate wins, encourage one another through challenges, and simply enjoy the company of people who matter. That's something I never want to lose sight of.
More Than Great Food
Houston Restaurant Weeks was founded in 2003 by the late Cleverley Stone with a mission to support local restaurants while raising money for the Houston Food Bank. Today, it has become one of the nation's largest charitable dining events.
Each meal purchased during Houston Restaurant Weeks helps provide meals for families experiencing food insecurity, while also supporting Houston's restaurant community during one of its historically slower seasons. It's a simple idea with an enormous impact.

Do your due diligence
Buyers are encouraged to complete their own inspections and evaluate condition, systems, and any needed repairs before purchasing. Consult qualified professionals, review the seller's disclosure, and confirm financing options for an As-Is, 1950-built home with your lender — some renovation-friendly loan programs may apply.

342 Baron St, Houston TX 77020 | Gated Home Near Downtown
342 Baron Street, Houston, TX 77020
A two-story, Mediterranean-style home in a small gated community — three bedrooms, two full baths, and 1,608 square feet, roughly three miles from the Downtown Houston business district.
A Gated Address Minutes From Downtown
Location is the whole argument for 342 Baron Street. The home sits inside a small gated enclave in the Ballpark III subdivision, in Houston's Denver Harbor market area — close enough to the central business district that a downtown commute is measured in minutes rather than freeway miles, and close enough to the East End that dinner, a ballgame, or a soccer match is a short drive rather than an evening's expedition.
Built in 2004, the two-story residence carries a Mediterranean-style stucco exterior, a composition roof, and a slab foundation. Inside are approximately 1,608 square feet, three bedrooms, and two full baths, finished with granite countertops, high ceilings, a formal entry foyer, and a mix of wood, tile, laminate, and carpet flooring.
The lot is compact by design — roughly 2,066 square feet, or about 0.047 of an acre. The homeowners association handles lawn care and garbage service, which makes this a lower-maintenance ownership profile than a comparable detached home on a conventional lot.
An Inverted Floor Plan
This is not a conventional two-story plan, and that is worth understanding before you tour.
The home uses a split-level, inverted arrangement: two bedrooms and a full bath occupy the first floor, while the main living space — living room, dining room, and kitchen — sits on the second floor alongside the primary bedroom. Living upstairs puts the gathering rooms above street level, which typically means better light and longer sightlines from the windows and balcony.
| Room | Dimensions | Floor |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Bedroom | 16 × 12 | Second |
| Primary Bath | — | Second |
| Living Room | — | Second |
| Dining Room | — | Second |
| Kitchen | — | Second |
| Bedroom | 12 × 12 | First |
| Bedroom | 12 × 12 | First |
| Full Bath | — | First |
Room dimensions are approximate and should be independently verified by the buyer.
The primary suite measures approximately 16 by 12 feet and includes an en-suite bath and a walk-in closet. Two bedrooms down and one up is a configuration that gives the primary bedroom genuine separation from the rest of the home.

Ballgames, Downtown & the East End
Game day without the parking ordeal
Daikin Park — home of the Houston Astros, renamed from Minute Maid Park in 2025 — sits roughly three miles from the front door. Shell Energy Stadium, where the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash play, is closer still at approximately two and a half miles. Both are ordinarily under a ten minute drive outside of event traffic, which puts a weeknight game within reach without committing an entire evening to the trip.
Toyota Center and the Downtown theater district fall into the same short radius, as does the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The Downtown business district
The central business district is approximately three miles away — generally about ten minutes by car depending on route and time of day. Access runs through Clinton Drive and Jensen Drive to Interstate 10, with Interstate 69 / US-59 and Loop 610 both close by. For anyone whose working life is anchored downtown, the arithmetic here is unusually favorable at this price point.
East End dining and nightlife
The East End and EaDo have grown into one of Houston's more active dining and nightlife corridors, and the home sits at its northern edge. The Navigation Boulevard corridor anchors much of it — home to The Original Ninfa's on Navigation, a Houston Tex-Mex institution operating since 1973, along with newer additions including True Anomaly Brewing's production facility.
Nearby you'll also find taquerias and counter-service spots, craft breweries and taprooms, coffee houses and bakeries such as Tout Suite, open-air venues like East End Backyard, sports bars including Little Woodrow's EaDo, and a steady rotation of food trucks. Murals and gallery spaces run throughout the district, and live music venues keep late hours.
Businesses are named for general area reference only. Hours, operating status, and offerings change; please confirm independently.
Medical centers
The Texas Medical Center — the largest medical complex in the world, with institutions including MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Methodist, Texas Children's Hospital, and Memorial Hermann — is approximately eight miles south, generally a 15 to 20 minute drive. Closer in, HCA Houston Healthcare East Houston and a range of clinics and urgent care facilities serve the immediate area.
The beach at Galveston
For weekends on the water, Galveston Island is approximately 50 miles southeast — generally about an hour's drive straight down Interstate 45 South. That puts Gulf Coast beaches, the Strand Historic District, Pleasure Pier, and Moody Gardens within comfortable day-trip range. Summer weekend traffic can extend the drive, so plan accordingly.
Estimated Drive Times
| Destination | Approx. Distance | Estimated Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Shell Energy Stadium (Dynamo / Dash) | ~2.5 miles | Under 10 min |
| Daikin Park (Houston Astros) | ~3 miles | Under 10 min |
| Downtown Houston business district | ~3 miles | ~10 min |
| Toyota Center | ~3 miles | ~10 min |
| East End / Navigation Blvd dining | ~2 miles | Under 10 min |
| Texas Medical Center | ~8 miles | 15–20 min |
| George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) | ~15 miles | 20–30 min |
| William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) | ~12 miles | 20–25 min |
| Galveston beaches | ~50 miles | ~1 hour |
Distances and drive times are approximate estimates only. Actual travel varies with route, traffic conditions, event schedules, and time of day.
